the many uses for newspaper

she leaves piles of the Burlington County Times
scattered around each room
some of it is used for packing
other sections litter the bed
left to look for sale items and coupons

half consumed glasses of water
can be found by the bed
and occasionally
next to the couch
where she is safely cocooned in her blanket

these are petty gripes
when I lean back in her dusty, black chair
push myself against the jacket laying on the back of it
and wait for her to come home

she is the center of everything
even when she tells me
"I'm no Katherine Heigl."
