number one fan
this is a quiet obsession
I will not park around the corner
of your big city apartment
to watch you leave in the morning
instead, I will absorb your words
take each metaphor
and caress every curve
no, I couldn't think of following you
to the grocery store
for the simple pleasure of touching
every piece of fruit
every box of cereal
that you touch
I will simply keep everything you send me
hidden away in a box without a lid
for easy access when I know I am alone
trace every inch of your handwriting
with the tip of my finger
and release a deep sigh as I
study how you loop letters like y's
the mystery makes a much better version of you
I don't want to hear your voice
the sound in my head is perfect
your name will repeat in whispers
off my lips
as I draw all of your verses
into my arms at night
